Timber Building Designer, Sustainable Construction is a two-year YH programme from YH Akademin that leads to a higher vocational education diploma in sustainable timber construction. You learn to design timber buildings using 2D and 3D CAD tools, technical calculations, building permit documents and structural drawings, while getting to know Swedish building regulations and laws. The programme alternates theory with two work placement periods (LIA) in working life and ends with a degree project. It is free of charge and eligible for CSN.

Mathematical foundations and calculation methods used in building design (25 YH credits).
Digital tools
Introduction to the digital tools and platforms used throughout the programme (10 YH credits).
Building technology and building regulations
Swedish building technology and the laws and rules that govern construction in Sweden (40 YH credits).
Construction contract law
Legal foundations for construction projects and contracts (20 YH credits).
3D CAD and technical drawing
Design and visualisation in 2D and 3D CAD software (35 YH credits).
Structural mechanics and design
Technical calculations and structural engineering for timber buildings (50 YH credits).
LIA 1 and Design for industrial timber construction
The first work placement period and an in-depth look at industrial timber construction (approx. 80 YH credits in total).
Project management and budgeting, LIA 2, degree project and building physics/sustainable construction
Project management and cost control, a second LIA period, a final degree project and an in-depth look at building physics and sustainable construction (approx. 140 YH credits in total).

Who is this for?
The programme is aimed at you who have upper secondary eligibility (at least grade E in, among others, Mathematics 2 and Construction 1/Building and Civil Engineering 1 or equivalent) and want to work as a timber building designer at a consulting firm, architectural practice, prefab manufacturer or construction company.
