The approved student has applicable knowledge of electric power production (such as wind, hydro, solar and wave power) and the extraction of energy-rich fuels (such as nuclear power, coal power, oil power and thermal power). The student has in-depth knowledge of the structure of the electricity supply system from an energy perspective, how electrical energy is produced and which energy sources are used today. The student has insight into the state of energy research and which energy sources may come to be used or converted in the near future in facilities for electric power production. The course also addresses the energy question in the longer term, and the student is given knowledge of the various environmental consequences associated with electricity consumption. The student has knowledge of how to evaluate design choices from an environmental and energy point of view, and gains familiarity with future energy solutions and the legal and regulatory requirements that affect distribution/production. The student has the skills to formulate and solve energy calculations and efficiency analyses. The approved student has knowledge of - The structure of the electricity supply system from an energy, environmental requirements and energy efficiency perspective - How electrical energy is produced and which energy sources are used today - Environmental consequences associated with electricity consumption - Making energy production more efficient - Energy-saving construction and design - Environmental aspects of different types of electricity production - New technology for future renewable energy - Advantages of storing electrical energy from an environmental point of view The approved student has the skills to... - Formulate and solve energy calculations - Carry out energy efficiency analyses - Keep informed about the state of energy research and follow which energy sources may come to be used in the future The approved student has the competence to... - Evaluate construction and design choices from an environmental and energy point of view - Formulate supporting documentation on environmental sustainability ahead of investments in electricity production, and make decisions based on this documentation - Have a holistic perspective on how electricity consumption and electricity production affect the environment and what consequences this has for society and their own organization
