Course PC20 Cost estimation and purchasing.

The purpose of the course is for students to develop specialised knowledge of the entire estimating and purchasing process, with skills in handling budget estimates and tender documentation as well as handling purchases and checking deliveries. The goal of the course is that after the course students have good knowledge of cost estimation and purchasing: being able to price jobs, produce different kinds of estimates and prepare tender documentation, and being familiar with the purchasing process and monitoring deliveries. The approved student has knowledge of - Account allocation, follow-up and forecast reconciliation - Processes in estimating and purchasing - Risks and opportunities in tenders - Contract boundaries and areas of responsibility - Reconciliation and evaluation of estimating and purchasing work - Cost estimation including ÄTA - Bill of quantities The approved student has the skills to - Produce, read and analyse estimates in the start-up phase, on an ongoing basis and when evaluating a construction project - Understand and handle quantity take-off/bills of quantities, budget estimates, production estimates, tender estimates, key ratios and final cost estimates - Handle digital tools relevant to estimating and purchasing - Understand profitability in projects - Interpret an APD plan and estimate with site overhead costs - Analyse purchasing decisions based on a given estimate or budget - Draw up a purchasing plan - Analyse and evaluate results in estimating and purchasing - Analyse and manage risks and opportunities in tenders and production, including ÄTA The approved student has the competence to - Evaluate and choose methods and materials in estimating and purchasing from an economic and production-based perspective - Justify choices in estimates, quotations and orders within their own organisation
