Mechanics gives you the basics of mechanical maintenance and develops your knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Through theory and practical exercises, individually and in small groups, you learn about how the systems are built, how they work, troubleshooting and maintenance, and gain practical skills in turning, milling, drilling, grinding, threading, welding and assembly techniques. After the course you can carry out troubleshooting and maintenance of both simpler and more advanced machines, as preparation for the professional role of maintenance technician.
The course aims to give students theoretical and practical competence in mechanical maintenance. Students gain specialised knowledge of mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics and materials science. Students will also handle the most common measuring equipment, cutting data, tolerances/fits, basic drawing reading, machine simpler parts by turning and milling, and do basic welding. After completing the course, students should be able to carry out practical tasks such as drilling, reaming, threading, turning, milling and grinding, as well as assembling machine parts. Students should also be able to carry out mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
