After completing the programme, the student should have knowledge of/in 1. Specialised knowledge of palliative care philosophy based on its definition and the core values of palliative care 2. Specialised knowledge of behaviour, approach and professional conduct; understanding of and respect for the differences between care recipients, next of kin and caregivers 3. Current legislation, ordinances and documentation in accordance with applicable statutes 4. Specialised knowledge of methods for optimal symptom relief in palliative care 5. Methods for quality assurance of palliative care 6. Physical, psychological, social and existential needs in connection with serious illness and death 7. The specialist assistant nurse's role and responsibility in team-based work 8. Communication, leadership and supervision methodology, and pedagogy After completing the programme, the student should have the skills to 1. Professionally provide care at the end of life based on the needs and wishes of the care recipient and next of kin, working in a person-centred way 2. Lead and supervise colleagues and evaluate the effect of different nursing interventions 3. Communicate with people of different ethical and cultural backgrounds and identify and handle different ethical issues and dilemmas 4. Communicate commitments and solutions within a field of work or study in English 5. Document in accordance with current legislation After completing the programme, the student should have the competence to 1. Assess, plan, carry out and follow up nursing care with the aim of preserving quality of life 2. Take responsibility for supervising and teaching care staff in the specialist area 3. Initiate and lead development work
