The course gives the student a good insight into and introduction to both general programming technique and the Python programming language and its syntax, semantics and standard library. The course also gives in-depth knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP) with Python. During the course, Git is used for version control of student projects, which gives a better understanding of common workflows in software development. Git's various areas of use and concepts are highlighted in connection with the course work. The student gains increased knowledge of key concepts and terms in AI, as well as its areas of use and impact on the world. Ethical aspects of the use of AI are discussed to raise questions of responsibility, critical examination and sustainable development. The student gains increased knowledge of how data is processed and prepared, what types of algorithms are available to use on the data, and how to choose among them for a given problem. The student gains increased knowledge of data handling, file formats such as json and CSV, and how, specifically in Python, data can be converted, manipulated and transferred. The student gains increased knowledge of visualising and interpreting data, with for example Matplotlib Seaborn, Jupyter Notebooks, Python and Pandas. The student gains increased knowledge of and insight into how to work with, and relate both ethically and pragmatically to, AI-assisted development (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot etc.). The student gains skills in using various development tools, terminals and code/text editors such as Visual Studio Code and PyCharm. The student will be able to apply, train and run inference with simpler machine learning algorithms using, for example, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras and PyTorch.
