Occupational roles Occupational role 1: Railway maintenance engineer Occupational role 2: Supervisor, operation and maintenance Occupational role 3: Supervisor, new investment and reinvestment Occupational role 4: Contracting engineer (track environment) Occupational role 5: Designer within BEST The graduate has knowledge of: - The railway system from a technical, economic, environmental and traffic safety perspective - The decision-making process for a railway project from idea to start of construction - Technology and design of track, power, signalling and telecommunications installations (BEST) - The procurement process for new investment and reinvestment work as well as operation and maintenance - Cost models and profitability calculation in railway production - Different design stages and the regulations governing drawings/models - Work environment and safety in the track environment - Maintenance technology for railway installations - Different process models in railway production - Condition inspection of railway installations - Work supervision: time and resource planning - Digital programs and tools for producing drawings in railway production - Oral presentation of a professionally relevant subject in Swedish and English The graduate has the skills to: - Draw up time and resource plans in BEST projects - Interpret, draw up and coordinate drawings and models for BEST design - Take part in condition inspections of railway installations - Prepare tender documentation, draw up tender specifications and cost estimates - Plan operation and maintenance activities - Communicate undertakings and solutions in railway production in Swedish and English The graduate has the competence to: - Supervise staff in railway production according to the regulations applicable to the industry - In the role of supervisor, ensure that safety regulations are followed when working in the track environment - Adapt their communication to different situations with different actors in railway production. - Independently carry out a simpler design within BEST by interpreting regulations, drawing conclusions from given documentation and making sound decisions in the choice of methods and techniques - Plan, lead and drive projects towards set goals regarding finances, quality and safety - Keep up with new findings in the railway industry in order to promote their own professional development in their role
