The course consists of a short course introduction and four modules corresponding to 10 days of full-time study. Learning outcomes - upon completion of this course you should be able to: distinguish between various forms and dimensions of health literacy, identify what affects health literacy and why health literacy is important to consider in care and social care targeting people with cognitive impairment. Assess health literacy on individual and organisational level, identify and differentiate between different cognitive disorders based on given literature. Define known risk factors for cognitive disorders and identify the relationship between lifestyle factors and brain health. Point out opportunities and challenges that health professionals have when working with people with (at risk of) cognitive disorder, identify how individuals' culture, abilities, and prerequisites can affect communication in care and social care targeting people with cognitive impairment. Identify cognitive and social difficulties and challenges related to cognitive impairment, critically assess popular science information about health and cognitive impairment. Identify which health literacy-friendly and person-centered strategies and methods are appropriate in communication with people with cognitive impairments and their relatives and list services in healthcare and the society that are beneficial for people with cognitive impairments.
